The great blue hole | Greaat Blue hole Belize

We in Belize Believe that the Great Blue Hole should be one of the Seven Wonders of the World because it is trullly a wonder we believe the Entire world should see. This world we live in has a lots of treasures which keeps life interesting. The great blue hole is one of those treasures.

The Great Blue hole can be found just 60 miles off the coast of Belize and only 1hr boat ride from Hopkins Belize.

The Great blue hole is an underwater sinkhole believed to be the largest of its kind in the entire world. This spot has become more than a sink hole, as it is home to different species of fish and other water life forms. The Great ble hole is Circular in shape from up top and takes on a cross shape from below and known for its rich, blue color, the Belize blue hole is over 300 meters (984 ft) across and 125 meters (410 ft) deep.

The Great Blue hole is also apart of the the Belize Barrier reef specifically in the center the Lighthouse Reef atoll.

A island of coral encircles the sinkhole as is seen in the image above, Water levels around the blue hole are so low that parts of the ring surrounding the great blue hole surfaces at low tide.

The Great Blue hole is believed to have originally formed as a limestone cave during the last glacial period,leading us to believe that the Great Blue was once a dry cave sourounded by land.

It is Believed that as the ocean levels begun to rise, the cave system flooded and eventually collapsed, creating a cave in the ocean.

This makes the great Blue Hole Belize Popular among divers from all walks of life curious to see the great blue hole.

Explorer Jacques Cousteau, made this site famous in 1971 by declaring it one of the top ten best diving places in the world. While Cousteau, sailed on his ship Calypso he investigated the great blue hole's depths and confirmed and renenforced the idea that it originated from a limestone cave formation.
